Ms. Sandhya Rao, Senior Advisor for Private Sector Partnerships USAID Bureau for Global Health, Ms. Kirsten Gagnaire, Global Partnerships Director of MAMA, Ms. Alice Lin Fabiano, Global Program Manager, Johnson & Johnson, Ms. Dayle Kern, Communication Officer, mHealth Alliance visited Mirpur Vashantek – BRAC Manoshi centre, one of thE “Aponjon” pilot areas. Dr. Umme Salma Jahan Meena, Project Management Specialist, PHNE, USAID Bangladesh accompanied them along with the MAMA Bangladesh team. Visitors emphasized on the access to mobile phone usage and the motivating factor for client to enroll for the service. They observed assisted registration process. Beneficiaries shared their experience on IVR messages and explained the way “Aponjon” service reminded them of many practices that help them to raise a child in a healthy way. Ms. Kirsten Gagnaire and Ms. Dayle Kern also visited Aponjon’s clients and outreach facilities in Sylhet during their visits of March 20 – 21, 2012.

Participation of MAMA Bangladesh in America week, 30th January to 1st February, 2012
MAMA Bangladesh participated at America week held from January 30 to February 1, 2012 at Chittagong Zila Krira Complex, Chittagong. D.Net arranged a stall for “Aponjon” service and displayed the phone messages in text and Interactive Voice Recording (IVR) form through LCD screens. An LCD monitor presented a Video presentation on the “Aponjon” service which tried to convey the service style and what it is about to local people. D.Net staff members distributed leaflets, brochures, and calendars of Aponjon among visitors and partners.
Learning and knowledge sharing workshop, 17th to 18th January, 2012
A Learning and Knowledge Sharing Workshop was organized at MAMA secretariat from January 17th to 18th, 2012. The key expert for the workshop was Mr. Marwan Tanjung, Finance and Operations Manager, Jhpiego Corporation. The workshop provided with the opportunity to learn, share, and discuss the General principles of managing projects under USAID funding and the interpretation of clauses of sub-agreement.
MAMA pilot location visit by USAID representatives, 17th January, 2012
USAID Assistant Administrator Mr. Ariel Mendez and Deputy Assistant Administrator Mr. Robert Clay visited MAMA Bangladesh initiatives on January 17, 2012 at Balaganj, Sylhet District, one of the pilot areas of “Aponjon”. Project Management Specialist, PHNE Section of USAID Bangladesh Dr. Umme Salma Jahan Meena accompanied them. Dr. Ananya Raihan, Executive Director of D.Net, the implementing and coordinating agency of MAMA Bangladesh gave them an overview of the program. During their interaction with clients, visitors were interested to know the usefulness of the service, acceptability of the pricing, and its implications.
MAMA office visit by foreign delegates, 10th January, 2012
Dr. Rita R. Colwell, Chairman, Canon US Life Sciences, Inc. and Professor, University of Maryland at College Park and Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, along with her team visited MAMA Bangladesh Office on January 10. Project Management Specialist of PHNE, USAID Bangladesh Dr. Umme Salma Jahan Meena accompanied her. Dr. Ananya Raihan, Executive Director, D.Net made a presentation on “Aponjon” and Infolady program of D.Net. She was interested about the scaling up of this innovative health information service and possible challenges. Dr. Raihan shared in details the preliminary findings of “Aponjon” pilot.
The Daily Star Leadership Colloquium, 6th January, 2012
A two-day event titled “The Daily Star Leadership Colloquium 2012” started on January 6, 2012 at The Daily Star Center in Dhaka. The theme of the event was “ICT in Healthcare: Ensuring Efficiency and Accountability”. About 350 people including experts, professionals and people involved in healthcare sector from home and abroad participated in this event. D.Net was the co-organizer of the event. Participants from D.Net and MAMA Bangladesh were present during this two-day event. They were responsible for organizing the event and participated in the sessions, worked as rapporteur, actively took part in the exhibition.
